Healing and Wellness Program

Program Goal:
The goal is to foster improvements in the health and wellbeing of Indigenous individuals, families, communities, and Nations through:

Program Objectives:

  • Ending family violence, particularly against Indigenous women, children, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ community members.

  • Providing holistic, culturally appropriate and equitable access to primary health and healing services and programs that result in improved health outcomes for Indigenous peoples.

  • Building on the strengths and enhancing the capacities of Indigenous communities.

  • Addressing immediate and long-term measures related to family violence issues through community designed and delivered programming.

  • Promoting equitable, violence-free relationships and healthy urban Indigenous communities.

Program Objectives:
The HWC is responsible for the implementation of the Indigenous Healing and Wellness Strategy at a local level. The HWC program focuses on reducing family violence through culturally appropriate services for those most at risk, notably women, children and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people to address prevention, aftercare, and the concurrent impacts of family violence on health.These specialized workers promote healing from a holistic and traditional Indigenous perspective.
